Job Duties
- Serves on multi-disciplinary mental health treatment team as a provider of psychiatric nursing services for mentally ill inmates
- Provides crisis intervention
- Completes initial psychiatric intake screening, nursing assessments
- Participates in the development of treatment plans
- Congducts medication education, individual and group supportive counseling and other therapeutic groups as assigned
- Observes and evaluates the patients physical and emotional reaction to medication and therapies
- Makes timely reports to the psychiatrist and appropriate treatment staff
- Documents appropriate data on the patient's records
- Affords assistance to the psychiatrist with psychiatric examinations
- Records and facilitates implementation of physician’s orders
- Coordinates psychiatric appointments
- Provides professional nursing care (e.g., checks vital signs, assesses medical needs, administers medication to psychiatric patients)
- Performs admission trauma checks and use of force checks
Minimum Qualifications
- Current license as registered professional nurse in state of Ohio as issued by Board of Nursing per Section 4723.03 of Revised Code
Training and Development
- Biennial renewal of licensure as registered nurse
Unusual Working Conditions
- Works shifts, weekends and holidays
- Exposed to communicable diseases
- Exposed to unpredictable patient behavior
- May require travel to community site under contract with Department of Mental Health
