About the role

The City of Walnut Creek seeks a full-time Police Dispatcher to join the Communications Center. This position is not entry-level and requires extensive experience.

Responsibilities

  • Receive emergency calls and inquiries from the public
  • Dispatch police officers via radio to calls for service
  • Handle multiple work requests under pressure
  • Exercise tact and discretion during emergency situations
  • Operate multiple automated systems and telecommunications equipment
  • Work shifts 24/7, 365 days a year

Requirements

  • One year of full-time, or its equivalent, experience within the last seven years performing law enforcement dispatch duties at a California law enforcement agency
  • Two years of full-time, or its equivalent, experience within the past two years at a US law enforcement agency outside of California
  • Successfully completed probation as a Police Dispatcher with a California law enforcement agency
  • Taken the POST Entry-Level Dispatcher Selection Test Battery
  • Completed the POST Public Safety Basic Dispatcher Course
  • Ability to type at the corrected minimum rate of 40 words per minute
  • Good driving record

Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school, supplemented by coursework in communications, secretarial duties, public safety, or a related field
