About the role

The Plumber Maintenance Worker III performs routine and emergency maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of a wide variety of commercial plumbing systems. Responsibilities include inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining plumbing fixtures in heating, water, and drainage systems, as well as identifying plumbing and safety issues and taking corrective action. The role involves clerical duties, blueprint reading, and occasional weekend on-call responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of commercial plumbing systems.
  • Inspect, repair, install, and maintain plumbing fixtures in heating, water, and drainage systems.
  • Identify plumbing and safety problems and take necessary corrective action.
  • Read and interpret blueprints.
  • Perform clerical duties associated with the job.
  • Troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of plumbing problems.
  • Work with steam, water, and natural gas distribution systems.
  • Complete associated paperwork with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Occasional weekend on-call duties.
  • Perform all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Journeyman’s plumber license EE-98J.
  • 4+ years of directly-related maintenance experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • Prior documented experience working with HVAC-R, plumbing, boiler operations, supply and exhaust fans, pumps, evaporative coolers, air filtration systems, gas-fired heaters, and minor electrical systems is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Knowledge of steam, water, and natural gas distribution, system maintenance, and repair.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of plumbing problems.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Proficiency with hand and power tools applicable to the plumbing trade.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn department-specific computer systems.
  • Post-offer background check required.
  • Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB).

Skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM, with occasional on-call duties.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in office, laboratory, and outdoor environments.
  • Frequent standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, crawling, climbing (ladders, scaffolds, etc.), and reaching/working overhead.
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects up to 80 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Perform desk-based computer tasks.
  • Wear personal protective equipment, which may include a respirator.
  • Work in close proximity to research animals and environments containing hazardous materials and/or infectious agents, which may require vaccinations.
