About the role
The Maintenance Technician III Plumber performs routine and emergency maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of a wide variety of commercial plumbing systems. Responsibilities include inspecting, repairing, installing, and maintaining plumbing fixtures in heating, water, and drainage systems, as well as identifying plumbing and safety issues and taking corrective action. The role involves clerical duties, blueprint reading, and occasional weekend on-call availability.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine and emergency maintenance, repair, modification, and installation of commercial plumbing systems.
- Inspect, repair, install, and maintain plumbing fixtures in heating, water, and drainage systems.
- Identify plumbing and safety problems and take necessary corrective action.
- Read and interpret blueprints.
- Perform clerical duties associated with the job.
- Troubleshoot and repair a wide variety of plumbing issues.
- Work with steam, water, and natural gas distribution systems.
- Complete associated paperwork with accuracy and attention to detail.
- Occasional weekend on-call duties.
- Perform other related duties as required or assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Journeyman plumber license (MM-1 required).
- 4+ years of directly-related maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Documented experience in plumbing installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Knowledge of steam, water, and natural gas distribution systems, including maintenance and repair.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair plumbing problems.
- Proficiency in using hand and power tools applicable to the plumbing trade.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Qualifications
- Highly motivated with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn department-specific systems.
- Post-offer background check required.
- Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force Base (KAFB).
Physical Requirements
- Work performed in office, laboratory, and outdoor environments.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, kneeling, crawling, climbing (ladders, scaffolds, etc.), and overhead reaching.
- Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects up to 80 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Desk-based computer tasks.
- Wearing personal protective equipment, including a respirator when required.
- Working in close proximity to research animals and areas with hazardous materials or infectious agents, which may require vaccinations.
