About the role
A Senior PLC Engineer at PPG is responsible for developing and maintaining programmable logic controller (PLC) systems for industrial automation. They lead projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure the efficient and reliable operation of automated machinery and processes.
Responsibilities
- Create control system architectures, selecting appropriate hardware and software, and developing PLC code for a variety of industrial applications.
- Write, test, and debug PLC code using multiple programming languages (e.g., ladder logic, structured text).
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues with PLC systems, including hardware and software malfunctions.
- Lead PLC engineering projects, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Create technical documentation for PLC systems, including programming specifications, wiring diagrams, and troubleshooting procedures.
- Ensure that PLC systems are designed and implemented following relevant safety standards and regulations.
- Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency of automated processes through PLC system enhancements.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of PLC hardware and software platforms, including programming languages, communication protocols, and networking.
- Experience with electrical principles, control theory, and industrial automation technologies.
- Ability to analyze complex problems, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to collaborate with engineers, technicians, and other team members.
- Plan, organize, and complete PLC engineering projects, including managing timelines, budgets, and resources.
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in PLC programming and automation.
