Plant Operator

About the role

We are looking for a motivated individual to work on a crew at an Asphalt Production Facility. The work is performed in a fast-paced environment and is often critical to the success of large-scale heavy civil construction projects on major highways and interstates in the area. Most employees are multi-disciplined and perform multiple roles at the facility, sometimes within the same shift. Various skill training and personal development is provided, with growth and advancement opportunities available and promoted within the company.

Responsibilities

• Operate asphalt plant – automated drum and batch plant systems controlled through automated computer systems and control boards.
• Communicate with quality control personnel to ensure specifications are met and adjust mix formulas and production accordingly.
• Monitor plant status, adjust plant as needed, load out material onto dump trucks, and dispatch trucks.
• Communicate with internal paving crews, project teams, and external customers to adjust production for maximizing profits, minimizing waste, and maintaining or improving quality.
• Ensure customer satisfaction through quality and customer service.
• Keep the plant running at optimal performance to avoid downtime and ensure customer satisfaction.
• Ensure a safe working environment for yourself and your co-workers; participate in safety discussions and support the company’s vision on safety.
• Schedule production needs for the following day and adjust the schedule for the current day.
• Perform daily, weekly, and monthly documentation and reporting as needed.
• Plan the following day’s production and order raw materials.
• Assist in preventative maintenance on the plant, scheduled repairs, and breakdown repairs; focus on eliminating downtime and providing innovative solutions.
• Perform winter maintenance repairs on the plant.
• Assist as an equipment operator as needed, including operating a CAT 980 or 966 Loader to feed raw materials into cold feed/recycle bins and manage the stockyard.
• Operate manlifts, material handlers, skid steers, forklifts, and other equipment after completing required training and evaluation.
• Conduct pre-shift inspections of equipment and assist in maintaining the equipment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Basic mechanical skills and basic knowledge of computers.
• Mobile or stationary equipment experience is beneficial, as is experience in the manufacturing or construction industries.
• Critical thinking skills, mechanical ability, communication skills, and a strong focus on safety.
• Hardworking attitude and ability to learn.

Physical Demands & Work Environment

Labor can range from light to heavy. Work environments include control towers, outdoor industrial settings, inside mobile equipment, and inside stationary equipment. PPE, monitoring systems, and precautions are used to avoid exposure to hazards.
