About the role
As a Plant Operator, you will contribute to site operations through the production and repackaging of compressed and liquefied gas, including:
- Loading cylinders or containers on vehicles using hand truck or lift gate and recording type and quantity of cylinders
- Examining returned cylinders for surface defects such as dents, cracks, and burns and moving cylinders to designated work area
- Removing cylinder caps (when appropriate), inspecting valves for correct CGA connection and pressure relief device, and connecting cylinders to manifold
- Opening valves to first draw off residual gas and then evacuate cylinders
- Inspecting cylinder labels to ensure they are correct for the service intended, legible, and legally compliant with current federal requirements; replacing inappropriate labels when detected
- Filling cylinders in accordance with specific guidelines either by pressure or weight, as appropriate
- Weighing cylinders filled with liquid products on platform scale and recording weight
- Testing cylinders for leaks by brushing or spraying chemical solution around valve
- Recording all necessary documentation and setting a cylinder aside for settled pressure checks
- Moving cylinders to the area designated for full cylinders, out-of-test cylinders, or repair, as appropriate
- Safely operating and maintaining equipment for pumping or repackaging gases into cylinders
- Completing pre-fill and post-fill inspections and tests before cylinders are released
- Ensuring cylinders are adequately maintained; removing cylinders requiring maintenance or repair from service until corrected
- Regularly inspecting and supporting the upkeep of pumping apparatus and associated pressure gages and monitoring devices
- Accurately filling cylinders or containers to proper pressure or weight
- Maintaining accurate cylinder filling records and ensuring procedures comply with local, state, and federal regulations
- Promptly communicating any accident or injury to leadership to foster a safe work environment
- Partnering with the plant team to conduct routine checks for safe and efficient operations
- Operating a forklift, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment
- Maintaining a neat, clean, and orderly plant environment
- Applying practical math skills to support operational calculations
- Assisting with loading and unloading trucks and/or trailers when required
- Supporting inventory efforts, general housekeeping, and helping customers when necessary
Requirements
- Applicants must be 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
Qualifications
- Previous experience in plant operations, industrial maintenance, or a related field is preferred
- Technical certification in industrial operations is a plus
- Industrial gas experience
- Excellent attention to detail and thoughtful organizational skills
- A shared commitment to safety and following the protocols that keep the team secure
- Comfort with operating a forklift safely and efficiently
- Flexibility to work shifts and occasional extra hours when needed to support teammates
