Plant Mechanic (Preventative Maintenance) - All Levels

Salary ranges:

• Plant Mechanic Apprentice: $20.46 - $25.57 hourly
• Plant Mechanic I: $21.90 - $27.36 hourly
• Plant Mechanic II: $25.10 - $33.41 hourly

About the role

The purpose of this position is to support Water and/or Wastewater Plant operations by performing preventive and reactive maintenance and repairs to systems and equipment for assigned plant(s). Duties include troubleshooting and repairing or replacing a variety of pumps, motors, valves, and related equipment.

Responsibilities

Plant Mechanic Apprentice

• Physically operate crane trucks, hand tools, and power tools
• Perform tasks such as flushing check valves, checking voltage and amps, testing motors, inspecting components, wiring, and connections
• Check floats and transducers; utilize schematic diagrams
• Assist with preventive and corrective maintenance, replacing mechanical parts, valves, piping, and pumps
• Perform tasks requiring heavy physical effort
• Maintain emergency generators and by-pass pumps, including installing hoses and power cords
• Assist with vacuum trucks, check emails and SCADA readings, create work orders, and attend monthly safety meetings
• Maintain trucks by inspecting vehicles, lights, gauges, tires, tools, oils, belts, and cranes

Plant Mechanic I

• Repair and replace equipment using truck cranes, hand tools, and electrical meters
• Perform lock-out/tag-out procedures, remove debris from impellers and volutes, monitor motor oil and power cords
• Troubleshoot motors, check electrical voltages, components, wiring, connections, floats, and transducers
• Maintain generators, conduct preventive maintenance, install bypass and generators, hook up power cables
• Assist with vacuum trucks, check emails and SCADA readings, create work orders, attend safety meetings
• Oversee pagers, phones, and radios
• Manage confined spaces using gas monitors, oxygen tanks, tripods, and other equipment
• Maintain trucks by inspecting vehicles, lights, gauges, tires, tools, oils, belts, and cranes

Plant Mechanic II

• Repair and replace equipment using truck cranes, hand tools, and electrical meters
• Perform lock-out/tag-out procedures, remove debris from impellers and volutes, monitor motor oil and power cords
• Troubleshoot by back-flushing check valves, testing motors, checking electrical voltages, components, wiring, and connections
• Check floats and transducers; utilize schematic diagrams
• Perform administrative tasks such as checking emails, overseeing SCADA readings, creating work orders, attending safety meetings and training
• Manage credit card statements, supervise pagers and radios, analyze spill reports and root causes
• Create standby and weekend report timesheets
• Inspect exit lights, fire extinguishers, equipment, trucks, cranes, confined space trailer equipment, warehouse, and MCC alarm systems

Requirements

Plant Mechanic Apprentice

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid State of Florida Class E Driver’s license
• Must obtain Class B (CDL) Driver’s License within the first six months of employment
• Previous relevant work experience preferred but not required

Plant Mechanic I

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year of work experience with pumps, motors, and/or controls
• Valid State of Florida Class E Driver’s license
• CDL Class A with Hazmat License preferred but not required
• Must obtain State of Florida Class A Driver’s License within the first six months of employment

Plant Mechanic II

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of three years of relevant work experience in a utility or industrial setting with a focus on motors, pumps, piping, and controls
• Valid State of Florida Class E Driver’s license
• Must obtain State of Florida Class A Driver’s License within the first six months of employment

• Regularly required to stand and walk to a significant degree
• Frequently required to use hands to operate tools or feel, talk, or hear
• Frequently required to pull, push, kneel, bend, squat, crawl, and twist
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
