Pipefitter / Welder
Responsibilities
- Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment such as supports, hangers and hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications
- Inspects structures to avoid obstructions that may form as a result of the installation of piping
- Plans installation/repair to avoid interfering with other workers’ activities
- Install pipes in accordance with regulation guidelines and using a variety of hand and power tools, and equipment pieces.
- Cuts pipe using saw, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch and pipe cutting machine
- Threads pipe using pipe threading machine
- Bends pipe using pipe bending tools and pipe bending machine
- Assembles and installs a variety of metal (iron, steel, copper) and nonmetal (plastic) pipes, tubes, and fittings
- Connects pipes using threaded, caulker, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints and hand tools
- Secures pipe in structure with brackets, clamps, and hangers using hand and power tools
- Installs and maintains hydraulic and pneumatic components of machines and equipment, such as pumps and cylinders, using hand tools
- Puts in and maintains refrigeration and air conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls and piping using a variety of hand and power tools, and equipment pieces and following specifications and blueprints
- Read and comprehend pressure gauges and systems
- Performs inspections after installation to check for leaks
- May perform occasional welding
- Gather/collate/classify information
- Exercise critical thinking and reasoning skills
- Execute work-place safety regulations
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 4 years of prior related experience
- Driver’s License
Compensation
Salary Min: $46,245.50
Salary Max: $77,080.00
Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
Travel
Frequently required to and from job site locations.
Work Environment
- Frequent exposure to various indoor/outdoor climate conditions and temperatures
- Exposure to frequent fumes, odors, dust, gases, poor ventilation, etc.
- Noise level exceeding 85 decibels will require hearing protection
- Exposure to electrical shock, burns, explosives, radiant energy, mechanical hazards, etc.
Physical Demands
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls
- Reach with hands and arms
- Stand (approximately 70%), walk (approximately 20%), and sit (approximately 10%)
- Be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, handle, feel, talk, and hear
- Carry up to 75lbs, lift up to 100lbs, and move up to 200lbs
- Close vision, distance vision, midrange vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position which typically requires 40 hours per week.
