About the role
This position is located at our Jefferson Site, approximately 15 miles south of Pittsburgh, PA. The Steam/Pipefitter will perform job functions site-wide, to carry out assigned duties in an effective manner. Activities must be coordinated to assure efficient performance of the various job functions. The employee is required to conduct the job in a safe, secure and environmentally responsible manner, performing to the principles of our Responsible Care Pledge.
Responsibilities
- Follow plant safety rules, including but not limited to, lockout/tagout (LOTO), hot work, confined space and chemical-handling procedures
- Safe and effective use of steam and pipefitting hand tools for industrial welded and screwed pipe fabrication
- Exhibit a knowledge of industrial and commercial piping systems
- Properly assemble plastic, fiberglass, steel screwed, bonded, and welded pipe assemblies
- Perform quality welds on ASME B31.3 Process Piping; qualify to the site’s Section IX Welding Procedure Specifications for carbon steel and stainless steel piping in the 6G position
- Perform solder and brazing operations to fabricate copper and steel tube piping systems
- Possess adequate mechanical ability to disassemble, repair or rebuild and reassemble valve assemblies and Steam Traps
- Read and interpret piping schematics of Boiler Systems, construction drawings and specifications
- Use necessary and proper manual and power tools and measuring apparatus to efficiently fit and fabricate piping sub-assemblies
- Maintain required records in legible, accurate manner
- Maintain good housekeeping in various work areas
- Work with strong initiative (able to direct one's work efforts with little supervision)
- Apply strong problem solving and trouble-shooting skills
- Demonstrate strong communication skills – verbal and listening
- Crane, rigging and forklift experience helpful
Qualifications
- Must possess valid PA Driver's License
- Must be 18 years of age and authorized to work in the United States
- High School Diploma or GED
- Journeyman Papers or equivalent education
- Favorable (clear) Background Check
- Must be able to wear a respirator and be clean-shaven at all times
- Must be willing to work indoors and outdoors regardless of weather
- Must wear all required PPE including hard hat, safety glasses, steel-toe boots, and long sleeves at all times
- Strong communication skills to interact with co-workers, other departments, and supervision
- Able to lift 60 lbs. on a regular basis
- Able to operate a forklift
- Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating procedures, and equipment manuals
- Able to remain active for long periods of time; frequent stair climbing, bending, and squatting are required
- Work in a chemical manufacturing environment or similar process industry is preferred
