Responsibilities
- Serves as consultant to the MH SL Director and the community on policy, procedure, and problems, which relate to the product line services.
- Develops and maintains continuing programs in the areas of professional peer review, organizational improvement, continuing education, scope of practice, clinical privileging, and other quality improvement activities.
- Provides expert consultation and treatment for patients with Psychiatric conditions.
- Develops and implements individualized treatment plans for patients with Psychiatric conditions.
- Provides patient and family education regarding Psychiatric conditions, treatment plans, and self-management strategies, utilizing educational tools and resources to enhance patient understanding and compliance.
- Collaborates with other healthcare professionals, including Cardiology APPs, to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and members of the healthcare team.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient care in the electronic medical record system.
- Provides clinical leadership and problem solving for clinical programs of which Mental Health Service has direct responsibility.
- Affirms sound financial, human resources, space, and equipment practices, consistent with medical center goals and objectives.
- Affirms a safe work environment.
- Serves as first line supervisor and has supervisory authority over the psychiatrists and APPs.
- Participates in the strategic development and implementation of VAPAHCS's model of care.
- Works collaboratively with other clinical dyads to ensure a seamless patient experience as patients move between venues and sites of care.
- Directly responsible for recruiting and retaining faculty and staff and initiating areas of programmatic development.
Qualifications
- Must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement.
- Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.
