This position is located at Alexander T. Augusta Military Medical Center, Director for DMS, Department of Internal Medicine at Fort Belvoir, VA. Fort Belvoir is a United States Army base spanning 8,656 acres along the Potomac River in Fairfax County, VA, home to a population of 47,000 and situated 12 miles south of Washington, DC.

A.T. Augusta Military Medical Center is a Department of Defense medical facility providing comprehensive care to members of the United States Armed Forces and their families in the National Capital Region. As a joint service medical facility, it is staffed by uniformed medical personnel from the Army, Navy, and Air Force. The hospital is one of the largest in Northern Virginia, offering all levels of inpatient and outpatient care, including a 24-hour emergency department. It also supports federal emergency planning and continuity of government operations.

The $1.03 billion, 1.3 million-square-foot facility opened in 2011, replacing Fort Belvoir's DeWitt Army Community Hospital and integrating portions of the former Walter Reed Army Medical Center. In addition to its main facility, the hospital operates the DiLorenzo TRICARE Health Clinic at the Pentagon and satellite health centers in Fairfax and Dumfries, Virginia.

Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers, as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act while acting within the scope of their employment. Who May Apply: US Citizens.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a board-certified Internal Medicine Physician providing care to adult patients with acute and chronic illnesses of all complexities.
  • Promote preventive measures and manage the acute and chronic conditions of an assigned panel of patients, including those assigned to other team members when necessary.
  • Provide continuous and comprehensive healthcare management for a broad range of health services.
  • Document all examinations and procedures in the patient's electronic medical record.
  • Participate in Continuing Medical Education (CME) and quality assurance activities as assigned.
  • Provide consultation to other healthcare providers as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Basic Requirement for Physician (Internal Medicine):

  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign medical graduates must provide evidence of equivalency through permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
  • Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • Graduate Training: At least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, such as a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an accredited hospital or institution.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successfully completed the required accredited residency training in Internal Medicine and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not be substituted for residency training.
  • Preferred: Successfully completed the required accredited residency training in Internal Medicine and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 5 years.

Pay

Salary for physician positions is based on a tier scale, determined by specialty, grade, and location. The pay range for this position is $124,308 to $315,000 (PDPP Pay Table 1, Tier 1). A salary quote will be provided after the initial job offer is accepted, following a compensation panel review.
