Physician ( Internal Medicine) GP-0602-14

The position is located at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The Naval Academy is a federal service academy educating midshipmen for service in the officer corps of the United States Navy and Marine Corps. The 338-acre campus, known as the Yard, is a National Historic Landmark.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate laboratory and clinical findings, differentiating among contributory causes, and prescribe appropriate treatment.
• Document patient care appropriately and follow through on cases to ensure effectiveness, altering treatment as indicated.
• Collaborate with specialists on cases involving interrelated problems.
• Support readiness for active duty and civilian missions by providing primary care to active duty personnel and their family members.
• Perform fitness-for-duty evaluations, physicals, profiles, and command referrals as assigned.
• Contribute to the teaching of medical learners (students, residents, fellows) through presentations and lectures in ambulatory and inpatient settings.
• Guide, instruct, and train medical interns in internal medicine and related aspects for other specialties.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Basic Requirement:
  • Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Foreign medical graduates must provide evidence of equivalency, such as permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.
  • Applicants must attach a copy of transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency with their application.
• Licensure: Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
• Graduate Training: At least one year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting (e.g., a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an accredited hospital or institution).
• Residency Training for GP-14: Successfully completed the required accredited residency training in Internal Medicine and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 4 years. Experience may not substitute for required residency training.
• Preferred: Residency training in Internal Medicine and equivalent experience and training equal to at least 5 years.
• Board Certification: Required.
