Reports Clinically
Reports clinically to the BOH's Physician and administratively to the Director. Under the direction of the physician is responsible for the coordination and delivery of care for patients.
Responsibilities
- Educates patients regarding health promotion, illness prevention and disease management.
- Assesses the patients' medical history and performs physical examinations, as appropriate for scope of service of a physician assistant.
- Evaluates and treats injuries within scope of practice for a physician assistant.
- Administers medications and injections, as prescribed.
- Documents, codes and completes diagnosis of patient's condition to facilitate appropriate insurance reimbursement.
- Attends and participates in related seminars, conferences and educational offerings, as approved.
- Reads current professional medical and nursing journals.
- Develops and maintains affiliation with professional organizations.
- Aids in planning changes in clinic/office procedures to improve the quality and delivery of health care.
- Participates in Quality Improvement programs; monitors quality and outcomes of care rendered.
- Aids in development and compliance of clinical protocols, policies and procedures.
- Maintains current knowledge of all pertinent legislation and relates to physicians and staff.
- Communicates with physicians to ensure the quality and timeliness for services rendered to patients.
- Completes other job related duties as assigned.
Organizational Responsibilities
- Attends and participates in department meetings and is accountable for all information shared.
- Completes mandatory education, annual competencies and department specific education within established timeframes.
- Completes annual employee health requirements within established timeframes.
- Maintains license/certification, registration in good standing throughout fiscal year.
- Patient care providers are required to maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required by position/department.
- Consistently utilizes appropriate universal precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques to protect patient and self.
- Adheres to regulatory agency requirements, survey process and compliance.
- Complies with established organization and department policies.
- Available to work overtime in addition to working additional or other shifts and schedules when required.
Education And Experience
- The knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated below are acquired through the successful completion of an accredited school for Physician Assistants or Nurse Practitioners, current Indiana license and Board certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
- Two years experience as a PA or NP is preferred.

- Thorough and complete understanding of medical and nursing care practices, policies and procedures in order to function in area of specialty.
- Demonstrates high level of analytical ability necessary to assess patients and evaluate services rendered.
- Demonstrates well developed interpersonal skills necessary to interact in a professional manner with patients and families, physicians and other health care professionals.
- Demonstrates excellent communication skills, both oral and written to disseminate information in a clear, concise manner.
- Demonstrates ability to function within legal boundaries of a Physician Assistant and utilize knowledge of governing statues and rules.
