About the role

We are seeking an experienced Urgent Care Nurse Practitioner to join our dedicated team at Ochsner Health. Our mission is to provide high-quality, compassionate care in a supportive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide efficient, high quality, cost effective care in the outpatient clinic setting, telehealth visit, and occupational medicine.
  • Work under the supervision of a Medical Director and in a collaborative practice model within the scope of licensing and credentialing and in accordance with privileges allowed.
  • Obtain patient history and perform assessments using interview, observation and physical examination and order and interpret diagnostic testing as needed for patient care and provide direct patient care and management of health conditions utilizing prescriptive authority or referral to other healthcare providers.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, staff development and education, patient and patient caregiver education and assume responsibility for professional development.
  • Utilize the approved medical practices process in the delivery of all patient care.
  • Maintain an attitude of inquiry towards medical practices and patient care outcomes and may develop research methodology.
  • Provide education experiences to patient families, staff, other health professionals, and to the community.
  • Perform duties including but not limited to ordering and in interpreting radiology tests, Point of Care Testing and lab testing, EKG reading, minor procedures (lacerations, incision and drainage abscesses), and pediatric population (6 month and older).
  • Train and educate staff, including new APPs and students.
  • Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including but not limited to: respect for privacy, method of introduction to the patient, adapting explanation of services or procedures to be performed, requesting permissions and communication style.

Requirements

  • Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Education: Master’s degree in Nursing or Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physician Assistant medicine or Health Sciences, or graduate of an approved Physician Assistant Training Program.
  • Work Experience: Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Required - None Preferred – 3 Years’ Related Working Experience.
  • Certifications: Nurse Practitioner Required - Current License as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the state of practice Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult/Geriatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANPCP Certified for Family Nurse Practitioner or Pediatric Nurse Practitioner ANCC or AANPCP Certified Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing Physician Assistant Required - License as a Physician Assistant in the state of practice, NCCPA Certified Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) / Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Certification from the American Heart Association Eligible for Prescriptive Authority in the state of practice as outlined by the State Board of Nursing.

Qualifications

  • Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
  • Proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable transportation as must be able to travel throughout and between facilities.
  • Able to work a flexible work schedule including weekend and holiday coverage.
  • Able to work independently as clinics are typically single or double provider coverage.
