Physical Therapist I, CF - Avenal State Prison (ASP)

Job Description and Duties

Effective July 1, 2025, in accordance with the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) was implemented in response to the status of the State budget. PLP 2025 requires each full-time employee in Bargaining Unit 19, and related Excluded, Exempt and Statutory Exempt employees, will have their base salary reduced by 3 percent and will receive 5 PLP 2025 leave credits monthly through June 2027. Salaries do not reflect the recent changes. Part-time employees are subject to the same conditions as full-time employees, on a prorated basis equivalent to their time-base. Permanent intermittent employees are subject to the same condition as full-time employees, based on the number of hours worked in the pay period.

Responsibilities

• Administers physical therapy treatments and active, passive, restorative, and resistive therapeutic treatment to patients in a correctional facility.
• Interprets to patients the significance of physical therapy services.
• Complies with all the applicable State and federal laws and regulations and departmental policies and procedures pertaining to the physical therapy program.
• Maintains order and supervises the conduct of the incarcerated and maintains the safety of persons and property and the security of working areas and work materials.

Requirements

The Physical Therapist I, CF must have a current license to practice physical therapy in the State of California. Must have a minimum of one year of experience in a correctional setting or related field. Must have knowledge of the principles and techniques of physical therapy and the ability to apply these principles and techniques to the correctional population. Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and other professionals. Must have the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
