PSYCHOLOGIST, CF - Avenal State Prison (ASP)

About the Role
Under the general direction of the Senior Psychologist, Correctional Facility (Supervisor), the Psychologist-Clinical, Correctional Facility performs preadmission screenings, psychological evaluations, crisis intervention, individual therapy, treatment and discharge planning, and participates in interdisciplinary team evaluations. Additional duties may include:
- Consulting with psychiatrists, nursing staff, and other professionals
- Supervising and training students, interns, unlicensed psychologists, and other staff
- Participating in program evaluation, research, and consultation on research design and data analysis
- Engaging in institutional committees, staff meetings, and consults with custody staff
Pay
This classification is subject to Section 5, Hiring-Above-Minimum (HAM) Authorization of the California State Civil Service Pay Scales. The authorized HAM rates are:
- P: $11,496 per month
- Q: $13,937 per month
Effective July 1, 2025, the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP 2025) reduces base salary by 3% for full-time employees in Bargaining Unit 19, with 5 PLP 2025 leave credits granted monthly through June 2027. Part-time and permanent intermittent employees are subject to prorated conditions.
Recruitment and retention bonuses may be available, including:
- A $10,000 one-time stipend after six months of employment
- A monthly differential during the first year (totaling $20,000)
- A $5,000 referral bonus for CDCR/CCHCS employees if the referred candidate is hired and remains employed for 90 days
