Physical Therapist

About the Role

Evaluates and conducts medically prescribed physical therapy treatment programs. This role includes an exciting opportunity to deliver pediatric rehabilitation services in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with a key role as the primary therapist for children undergoing SDR procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provides coordinated and comprehensive patient care including assessment, expected outcomes, rehabilitation interventions, and evaluation within an interdisciplinary team approach.
• Applies research and proven techniques to examine, diagnose, and treat conditions that limit the body’s ability to move and function in daily life, as monitored by supervision, documentation review, and consultation with an M.D.
• Carries out oversight responsibilities to ensure supervision of PTAs, Rehab Techs, students, and volunteers.
• Participates in meeting the goals and objectives of the work unit and department to ensure alignment with the hospital’s organizational goals.
• Supervises physical therapy students and volunteers, and provides supervision of therapy assistants in accordance with regulatory standards.
• Submits accurate charges for services rendered according to departmental policies and procedures, utilizing the billing system via the patient’s EMR.
• For facilities with specialty accreditation requirements: completes annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards.

Requirements

• Current or temporary physical therapist licensure in the applicable state where services will be performed:
  • MD: Physical Therapist License OR Physical Therapist Temporary License through Maryland Board of Physical Therapy Examiners OR Physical Therapist Compact License.
  • OH: Physical Therapist License through Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Training Board OR Physical Therapist Compact License.
  • PA: Physical Therapist License OR Temporary Physical Therapist License through Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy OR Physical Therapist Compact License.
  • WV: Physical Therapist License OR Physical Therapist Temporary License through West Virginia Board of Physical Therapists OR Physical Therapist Compact License.
• Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.

Preferred Qualifications

• One (1) year of physical therapist experience.

Physical Requirements

• Heavy/Hard work: Requires strength and/or stamina, including lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying materials and equipment weighing 40+ lbs.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing manual patient lifting and limiting safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts, and repositioning will be completed using lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient’s profile and appropriate algorithms.

Working Environment

• Exposure to communicable diseases, body fluids, and various types of cleaning and laundry chemicals.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to organize and prioritize time and tasks to achieve a well-coordinated work effort and meet work schedules, integrating multiple factors that may impact patient care.

The Physical Therapist Clinical Ladder is a system-wide clinical advancement program to enhance professional development, provide a reward system for quality clinical performance, promote quality rehab care, and improve job satisfaction. Requirements for each level are as follows:

• Level 1: No experience required.
• Level 2: Meets requirements for previous level. Two years of experience.
• Level 3: Meets requirements for previous levels. Four years of experience.
  • Twenty Level 3 Proficiencies (if no certification).
  • Ten Level 3 Proficiencies required annually (if certified).
  • Five Level 3 Proficiencies required annually.
• Level 4: Meets requirements for previous levels. Eight years of experience.
  • Ten Level 4 Proficiencies.
  • Five Level 4 Proficiencies required annually.
  • Professional Certification.
• Level 5: Meets requirements for previous levels. Ten years of experience.
  • Ten Level 5 Proficiencies.
  • Five Level 5 Proficiencies required annually.
  • Professional Certification.
