About the role
The Phlebotomist I represents the face of our company to patients within the hospital systems at Quest Diagnostics, both as part of their routine health management or for insights into life-defining health decisions.
Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups.
- Accurately label and process specimens according to laboratory protocol.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas.
- Administer oral solutions according to established training, such as Glucola.
- Data entry and processing specimens including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.
- Perform departmental-related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answering phones when needed.
- Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures.
- Observe infection control and safety protocols at all times.
- Complete training courses and keep up to date with the latest phlebotomy techniques.
- Communicate effectively with patients, nursing staff, and lab personnel.
- Participate in special projects and teams.
- Rotate through inpatient, outpatient, physicians’ offices, and ED settings as scheduled.
- Assist with training new staff or students as needed.
- Stay up to date on company communications.
- Perform additional duties and responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate proficient phlebotomy skills to include pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime.
- Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
- One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Customer service and healthcare experience preferred.
- Keyboard/data entry experience.
- Depends on site operations and model, Hospital Phlebotomists may also support pre-analytical laboratory functions.
Physical And Mental Requirements
- Lift light to moderately heavy objects.
- Sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time.
- Use stairs and/or elevators to move between floors as required by the job.
- Perform repetitive tasks with dominant hand frequently to constantly throughout the day.
Work Environment
- Hospital environment.
- Exposure to graphic traumas.
Skills
- Ability to provide quality, error free work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal on-site supervision.
- Excellent phlebotomy skills to include pediatric and geriatric.
- Superior customer focus; engaging in positive interactions; ability to communicate openly and transparently with peers, supervisors and patients; ability to accelerate and embrace change throughout Quest.

Pay
Depending on whether it is a part-time or full-time position, some of the benefits offered may include:

Schedule
Monday to Friday, 4:30 AM to 8:30 AM, with rotational weekends.
