Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection on patients of all age groups.
- Accurately label and process specimens according to laboratory protocol.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas.
- Administer oral solutions according to established training, such as Glucola.
- Data entry and processing specimens including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test order.
- Perform departmental-related clerical duties when assigned such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answering phones.
- Read, understand and comply with departmental policies, protocols and procedures.
- Observe infection control and safety protocols at all times.
- Maintain all appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner and based on frequency.
- Complete training courses and keep up to date with the latest phlebotomy techniques.
- Communicate effectively with patients, nursing staff, and lab personnel.
- Participate in special projects and teams.
- Rotate through inpatient, outpatient, physicians’ offices, and ED settings as scheduled.
- Assist with training new staff or students as needed.
- Stay up to date on company communications.
Qualifications
- Demonstrate proficient phlebotomy skills to include pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
- Flexible and available based on staffing needs, which includes weekends, holidays, on-call and overtime.
- Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and clean driving record, if applicable.
- One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Customer service and healthcare experience preferred.
- Keyboard/data entry experience.

The Phlebotomist I represents the face of our company to patients within the hospital systems at Quest Diagnostics, both as part of their routine health management or for insights into life-defining health decisions. The Phlebotomist I has direct contact with patients and creates an atmosphere of trust and confidence while explaining procedures to patients and drawing blood specimens in a skillful, safe and accurate manner.
