About the role

The Phlebotomist Representative I - Hospital is a hospital-based position at Northern Lights Hospital. This role represents the face of Quest Diagnostics within the hospital systems, interacting with patients for routine health management or for significant health decisions.

Responsibilities

  • Draws quality blood samples from patients following established practices and procedures.
  • Accurately labels and processes specimens according to laboratory protocol.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of phlebotomy carts and work areas.
  • Administers oral solutions as per established training, such as Glucola.
  • Data entry and processing specimens including labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens as required by test orders.
  • Performs departmental-related clerical duties such as data entry, inventory, stock supplies, and answering phones.
  • Complies with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures, including reading and understanding manuals and ensuring staff compliance.
  • Observes infection control and safety protocols at all times.
  • Maintains appropriate phlebotomy logs in a timely manner, including maintenance logs and temperature logs.
  • Completes all data entry requirements accurately, including patient registration, test order entry, and standing order management.
  • Assists with training new staff or students as needed.
  • Rotates through various settings including inpatient, outpatient, physicians' offices, and emergency departments as scheduled.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, nursing staff, and lab personnel.
  • Participates in special projects and teams.
  • Performs additional duties as needed.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrate proficient phlebotomy skills to include pediatric, geriatric, and capillary collections.
  • Flexible and available based on staffing needs, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and overtime.
  • Must have reliable transportation, valid driver's license, and a clean driving record, if applicable.
  • One year of phlebotomy experience preferred.
  • Customer service and healthcare experience preferred.
  • Keyboard/data entry experience.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

  • Quality, error-free work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Independent work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent phlebotomy skills to include pediatric and geriatric.
  • Superior customer focus; engaging in positive interactions; ability to communicate openly and transparently with peers, supervisors, and patients; ability to accelerate and embrace change throughout Quest; and knowledge of the business.

Pay and Schedule

  • Pay range: Minimum of $20.00+ per hour; shift differential of 10% for second shift and 15% for third shift may apply.

  • Work schedule varies between 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM, with rotational weekends.
