Pharmacy Supervisor - Specialty Operations

About the role

The Pharmacy Supervisor is a licensed professional responsible for providing safe and appropriate pharmacy services to Option Care patients in accordance with company policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. This role coordinates patient services with nursing, delivery, and reimbursement departments, oversees pharmacy operations, and ensures the purchasing, control, and security of all drug products and medical supplies.

Responsibilities

• Delivers and manages appropriate patient care, assessing patient suitability for home care in accordance with Option Care policies.
• Directs daily pharmacy activities to prioritize pharmaceutical care and meet patient needs.
• Oversees state and federal regulatory compliance for alternate site pharmacy operations; may act as the pharmacist in charge per state regulations.
• Assists the director of pharmacy in maintaining current and valid state and federal licensure for pharmacy and controlled substances.
• Ensures staff training on computer systems and admixture devices, safeguarding patient confidentiality and proprietary information.
• Supports sales professionals and the general manager by accurately communicating the scope of Option Care services to managed care organizations and other accounts.
• Manages the purchase, security, and inventory of medications, pumps, and medical supplies in line with Option Care policies and formulary guidelines.
• Designs, monitors, and evaluates patient-specific pharmacy care plans, modifying them based on patient data and laboratory values.
• Ensures medications are prepared and dispensed using appropriate techniques and calibrated equipment.
• Provides in-service education on home care pharmacy-related issues to physicians, nurses, pharmacy technicians, and other practitioners.
• Manages and prioritizes pharmacy staff workload, organizing workflow based on available resources.
• Coordinates and participates in on-call responsibilities for the pharmacy department.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of pharmacy.
• Current, active Pharmacy license as granted by the State Board of Pharmacy.
• At least 3 to 5 years of experience in a clean room or infusion pharmacy setting or 2 years of experience plus one of the following:
  • Knowledge of non-sterile compounding and Medication Therapy Management (MTM).
  • Completion of an ASHP-accredited Pharmacy Residency Program.
  • Equivalent experience as approved by the VP of Pharmacy and/or SVP of Clinical Services.
• Access to reliable transportation (personal vehicle requires a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance).
• Experience with time management, including prioritizing, organizing, and meeting deadlines for multiple projects.
• Customer service experience for both internal and external stakeholders, including quality standards and customer satisfaction evaluation.
• Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office applications:
  • Word (e.g., formatting text, spell check, track changes).
  • Excel (e.g., formatting cells, using formulas, managing worksheets).
  • PowerPoint (e.g., creating slides, inserting tables, running slide shows).
• Willingness to travel up to 5% of the time for business purposes (within and out of state).

Preferred Qualifications

• Post-graduate program in clinical pharmacy service.
• Board certification in Nutrition Support Pharmacy, Pharmacotherapy, or another clinical pharmacy practice area.
• At least 1 year of experience managing inventory and logistics.
• Active membership in a state or national professional organization.
• At least 3 years of experience compounding sterile products and managing complex infusion patients.
• At least 1 year of experience overseeing the purchasing and inventory process of pharmaceuticals and related supplies.

Pay

Salary is determined by education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, internal equity, and market alignment. Pay range: $132,267.37 – $220,445.61.
