Supervisor, Pharmacy Technician Operations, Specialty Pharmacy
About the Role
Effectively supervises and coordinates the overall management of pharmacy technicians/Medication Management Navigators, including scheduling, training, coaching, counseling, and performance evaluations. Ensures a smooth and efficient flow of work in the pharmacy patient assistance operation and satellite clinics within the assigned territory. Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure continuity of services.
Responsibilities
- Ensures a smooth, efficient flow of work and organizes workflow while establishing priorities.
- Maintains schedules for pharmacy technicians/Medication Management Navigators, including time-off requests and sick coverage.
- Serves as a liaison between pharmacy technicians, pharmacies, and supported clinics.
- Coordinates team-building activities and completes performance evaluations in a timely manner.
- Communicates and applies pharmacy, hospital, and departmental policies effectively.
- Monitors timesheets and overtime usage.
- Utilizes positive reinforcement, coaching, counseling, and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Conducts monthly meetings for information exchange and problem resolution.
- Interviews and hires staff.
- Coordinates activities to support staff sharing and increase productivity.
- Continuously assesses and improves performance of care and services provided.
- Serves as a resource for issue/problem resolution and responds to escalated issues.
- Develops and implements standard work, processes, and workflows, soliciting staff feedback.
- Leads continuous improvement efforts using Lean or other process improvement methods.
- Implements and enforces adherence to department, entity, and system standards, policies, and regulations (e.g., TJC, applicable laws).
- Ensures maintenance of appropriate records and supply levels.
- Promotes efficient communication between departments to standardize workflows.
- Collaborates to coordinate services, streamline workflows, and drive positive outcomes.
- Identifies areas of non-compliance or vulnerability and implements corrective action plans.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited pharmacy technician program OR met Board of Pharmacy requirements to obtain registration.
- Registered Pharmacy Technician (PHRMTECHR) certification.
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (PHARMC) preferred.
- 5 years of recent relevant experience.
Skills & Knowledge
- Knowledge of medical terminology, pharmaceutical generic and trade names, and pharmacy-related laws and regulations.
- Understanding of basic dosing information and pharmaceutical calculations.
- Proficiency in basic arithmetic and algebra.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Windows environment (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards, including:
- National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP)
- The Joint Commission (TJC)
- Title XXII
- U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS)
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
- Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
- United States Pharmacopeia (USP)
Schedule
- Full-time (40 hours per week).
- Variable shift hours (8-hour shifts).
- Variable days of the week, including weekends as needed.
Pay
Pay range is $53.65 to $80.48 per hour. The compensation range may vary based on geographic location, candidate experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs.
