Pet Care Supervisor
Full-time position in Chicago, IL.
About the Role
We’re hiring a dependable, hands-on Pet Care Supervisor to support our Pet Tech team and help ensure every shift meets our standards for safety, sanitation, organization, and compassionate care. This is a working supervisor role. You’ll spend time directly caring for pets while also helping lead the shift, guide team members, assign responsibilities, and communicate issues to management. This position is a strong fit for an experienced Pet Tech or animal-care professional ready to take the next step into leadership.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Shift
- Help lead Pet Techs during assigned shifts
- Communicate priorities and assign responsibilities
- Monitor workflow, staffing coverage, breaks, and shift transitions
- Provide real-time coaching, support, and redirection
- Help train new Pet Techs
- Complete opening, closing, and shift-lead duties as assigned
- Provide clear updates to the incoming shift and management team
- Provide Safe, Compassionate Pet Care
- Supervise safe daycare playgroups and monitor dog behavior
- Follow feeding, medication, boarding, and individual care instructions
- Complete wellness checks and identify changes in a pet’s behavior or condition
- Respond calmly and appropriately to pet-care concerns, injuries, or incidents
- Ensure dogs are grouped appropriately by size, temperament, and play style
- Accurately document pet-care updates, incidents, and concerns
- Maintain Sanitation and Facility Standards
- Conduct walkthroughs to ensure pet-care areas are clean, safe, and organized
- Monitor completion of cleaning and sanitation tasks
- Ensure kennels, playrooms, suites, kitchens, and common areas are properly cleaned and disinfected
- Reinforce correct use of sanitation procedures and cleaning products
- Ensure food, medications, supplies, and pet belongings are labeled and stored correctly
- Identify and report safety, sanitation, inventory, or maintenance concerns
- Work alongside the team to complete cleaning and animal-care responsibilities
Requirements
- At least one year of professional pet-care, kennel, daycare, boarding, veterinary, or animal-handling experience required
- Previous shift-lead, training, or supervisory experience preferred
- Strong understanding of dog behavior, body language, and safe group play
- Ability to give clear direction and respectful feedback
- Strong attention to detail and follow-through
- Ability to stay calm and use sound judgment in unexpected situations
- Reliable, punctual, organized, and team-oriented
- Comfortable with hands-on animal-care and cleaning work
- Genuine commitment to pet safety, sanitation, and compassionate care
Physical Requirements
- Stand, walk, bend, reach, and remain active for extended periods
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds safely
- Handle dogs of different sizes, breeds, and energy levels
- Work around barking, pet hair, cleaning products, water, and pet waste
- Complete repetitive cleaning and sanitation tasks
- Respond quickly when a pet or team member needs assistance
Schedule
- Full-time position
- Weekday and weekend availability required
- Flexibility to work morning, afternoon, and evening shifts
- Holiday and peak boarding-period availability may be required
- Dependable attendance and scheduling flexibility required, as Pet Care Plus operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
Pay
$19–$21 per hour, based on experience
