About the role
The Personal Support Specialist (PSS) provides clients with assistance in activities of daily living (ADLs) as outlined in the client service plan. Personal Support Specialists consistently deliver exceptional client service, follow infection control procedures using universal precautions, and use proper body mechanics to ensure safety. This position involves traveling to the homes of several clients during the work shift and requires transportation responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Follow duties outlined in the client’s service plan
- Assist clients with personal care needs such as bathing, dressing, grooming, oral hygiene, nail, hair, skin, and foot care
- Assist clients with elimination needs, including help to and from the bathroom or commode, bedpan or urinal assistance, catheter, ostomy, and incontinent care
- Assist clients with ambulating needs, including the use of assistive devices such as walkers, canes, wheelchairs, bed mobility, transfers, Hoyer lifts, gait belts, and range-of-motion exercises under professional supervision
- Transport clients when authorized
- Assist clients with nutritional needs, including meal planning and preparation, shopping, and feeding assistance or prompting
- Assist clients with household duties, including kitchen and bathroom cleanup, dusting, vacuuming, laundry, and, when authorized, shopping and running errands
- Observe, report, and document any changes in the client’s physical or mental status, such as eating, sleeping, and general behavior
- Promote a safe and clean environment and report any identified safety hazards in the home
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Proof of vehicle insurance at $50K/$100K and a valid Maine driver’s license
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Proof of completion of the tenth grade is required; high school diploma or equivalent is preferred
- Entry-level computer experience and access to email/internet
- PSS certification (training provided at no cost)
Schedule
This position requires an irregular, changing schedule, including late shifts, weekends, and travel within a 30-mile radius of your home.
