About the role
The City of Galt is seeking a Permit Services Supervisor to join our team. Located in the heart of California's Central Valley, Galt offers a blend of small-town charm and modern conveniences. Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the permit services and plan check for the Building Division.
- Review and process building permits for new construction and building modifications, ensuring completeness and conformance with building codes and regulations.
- Perform over-the-counter plan checks for small construction projects, including verifying and coordinating permit documentation, agency clearances, and approvals.
- Manage and track permit documentation and project information, preparing reports and maintaining department logs.
- Calculate and collect permit application and plan check fees, and coordinate fee payments with the cashier.
- Provide customer service by responding to public and agency inquiries, answering questions, and resolving complaints related to permit issuance and plan check requirements.
- Oversee the development and maintenance of a case management and permit tracking system for managing all aspects of the building permit and plan check process.
- Represent the City with various customers and the public, ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.
Requirements
- Five years of experience in processing plan submittals and permit applications.
- An associate’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A bachelor’s degree in construction management, public administration, or a related field is highly desirable.
- Valid Class C California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
- International Code Council (ICC) Permit Technician and Residential Plans Examiner certifications within one year of hire.

- Ability to manage, oversee, and supervise all permit services and plan checks.
- Ability to collect, analyze, and present data.
- Ability to explain and give zoning and planning ordinances and engineering information.
- Ability to work with the public in a courteous and friendly manner.
- Ability to plan, organize, train, evaluate, and direct work of assigned staff.
- Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines.
- Ability to analyze complex issues and develop and implement appropriate responses.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Pay
- Base Pay Increases Effective July 1, 2027: $8,734 - $10,618.
- Additional Pay (upon Assignment And Eligibility): Incentive Pay - Up to 5% incentive for City-approved educational courses; Longevity Pay - Beginning at 10 years of service, 5%; at 15 years of service, 7.5%.
- Bilingual Pay - $100 per month.
- Cell Phone Stipend - $75 per month.
- Medical-in-lieu - Employees who waive the City's medical coverage shall receive $200 per month for employee only, $350 per month for employee plus one, and $500 per month for family.
Schedule
- Exempt employees accrue vacation credit based on years of prior public agency experience.
- Employees may cash out up to 80 hours per year.
