Permit & Installation Supervisor
About the role
This role is specific to Florida gas chapter code regulations and requirements. The Permit & Installation Supervisor owns the end-to-end permit and installation process for all new commercial and residential propane installations within the assigned Florida territory.
Responsibilities
- Owns the end-to-end permit and installation process for all new commercial and residential propane installations within the assigned territory, from initial site assessment through final inspection and turn-on.
- Conducts site surveys for new installations, assessing property layout, equipment placement, setback requirements, and code compliance.
- Produces to-scale site plan drawings (exterior and interior) including tank locations, gas lines, equipment specifications, setback distances, BTU loads, regulator placement, and design pressure.
- Calculates load requirements and line sizing per NFPA 58 and applicable local codes.
- Prepares isometric and riser diagrams when required by the municipality.
- Provides tank, regulator, tie-down, and appliance specifications as required by the permit application.
- Assembles complete permit packets per the municipality-specific checklist for the assigned territory, ensuring all required documents are included prior to submission.
- Maintains current knowledge of permit requirements, application procedures, and fee structures for all municipalities within the assigned territory.
- Logs into municipality permitting systems, updates company license information, workers’ compensation, and insurance documentation as required.
- Completes and submits permit applications (online, paper, or both) to the appropriate city, county, or state authority.
- Uploads all required supporting documents to municipality portals.
- Maintains the permit tracker with current, accurate status for every active permit in the territory.
- Serves as the single point of contact for permit status inquiries from customers, TSRs, service technicians, and operations leadership.
- Follows up with customers on any permitting information or documentation needed to complete the application.
- Communicates proactively with TSRs and Territory Managers on permit timelines, delays, and any issues that may impact installation schedules or customer commitments.
- Ensures all permit and installation activities comply with AmeriGas Safety Policies and Procedures, NFPA 58, Florida Statute Chapter 527, FDACS regulations, and all applicable codes.
- Communicates any safety deficiencies or concerns identified during site surveys or inspections to the Territory Manager and/or Field Safety Manager.
Requirements
- Working knowledge of NFPA 58, Florida LP Gas Code (Chapter 527), and FDACS licensing requirements.
- Ability to read, interpret, and produce site plan drawings, isometric diagrams, and equipment specifications.
- Familiarity with Florida municipal permitting systems and processes, including online portals.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent permit applications across different municipalities.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with municipalities, inspectors, customers, TSRs, and service technicians.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Length of Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in the propane or LP gas industry, or equivalent experience in gas utility installation, construction permitting, or a related field.
- Certifications: No state license required at time of hire. Must obtain Qualifier (QL) license within 6 months of hire or upon meeting FDACS eligibility requirements, whichever comes first.
- Licenses/Registrations: Valid driver’s license required. CDL with HazMat and Air Brake endorsements preferred but not required.
- Other: At least 21 years old per regulatory requirement. Must be able to independently drive to job sites, municipalities, and inspection locations.

The pay for this position ranges from to $, depending on circumstances including an applicant’s skills and qualifications, certain degrees and certifications, prior job experience, market data, and other relevant factors. Additional compensation may include eligibility to earn a performance-based bonus or commissions on completed sales depending on position.
