About the role
The Public Safety and Telecommunication Departments support the routine and emergency activities for the health system’s four acute care hospitals and rehabilitation hospitals. The departments operate on a 24-hour, 7-day a week schedule and are the first point of contact for external and internal inbound callers. The teams work in a fast-paced, multi-line environment encountering situations ranging from simple to complex and must be able to make immediate, independent decisions and take decisive action to preserve life and property.
The Telecommunicator-Specialist is the first point of contact for external inbound calls and internal requests for safety and security resources. The Specialist receives and processes all requests and transactions in a professional, expedient, efficient, customer-focused, and confidential manner using the provided policy, procedures, systems, and technology.
- Answers a high volume of emergent and non-emergency telephone calls
- Dispatches public safety resources to reported incidents
- Provides relevant information to callers and routes calls to the appropriate parties
- Utilizes established technology and systems to monitor alarm systems, facility access, closed circuit television (CCTV), and the health of mission-critical equipment (e.g., generators)
- Manages incident communication and documentation using a records management system (RMS)
- Initiates emergency activations for affected facilities and personnel

Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of five years of customer service and/or call center experience preferred
- Acquire and maintain the APCO Public Safety Telecommunicator 1 (PST-1) certification

Schedule
Per-diem position with shifts from 11 PM to 7 AM, including every other weekend.
