About the role
The Kentucky State Police is seeking a Public Safety Telecommunicator I to join their team. This role serves as a vital link between state troopers and the information they need to perform effectively.
Responsibilities
- Answer radio and telephone calls, including 911 in designated areas
- Gather and relay pertinent information from each communication; dispatching calls to police and other emergency management personnel
- Provide pre-arrival instructions during medical emergencies
- Operate the Computer Aided Dispatching system (CAD)
- Familiarize oneself with the Post region and utilize law enforcement systems nationwide to assist troopers and detectives
- Utilize knowledge of national and international law enforcement systems to support investigations
Requirements
- High school graduate
- Must obtain certification as LINK/NCIC Operator within thirty days of employment
- Must obtain certification as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher within sixty days of employment
- Must obtain certification as a Telecommunicator by the Kentucky Law Enforcement Council (KLEC) within twelve months of employment
- Must not have been convicted of a felony or other crimes pursuant to KRS 15.540
- Maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s) or other credentials for the length of employment in this classification
Qualifications
Substitute Education for Experience: None
Substitute Experience for Education: Experience in the transmission, receiving and relaying of electronic information for law enforcement, emergency medical, fire, emergency management, military communications or traffic operations will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
