Per Diem Psychiatric Nurse

About the role

Provide direct nursing care within a hospital setting, supporting adult and pediatric patients across various units. Serve as a clinical leader and role model to promote a positive work environment and ensure quality patient care.

Responsibilities

• Ensure patient safety by following policies, reporting hazards, and promoting a safe environment
• Implement individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team, including discharge planning and patient education
• Administer medications, including IVs, adhering to the Seven Rights, and document findings
• Assist with tests and procedures, ensuring proper consent and preparation
• Respond to emergencies and institute measures as needed
• Maintain accurate medical records and handle patient inquiries
• Participate in orientation and training, mentoring new staff as appropriate
• Identify and report safety concerns, medical errors, and near misses
• Encourage patient participation in their care through communication and education

Qualifications

• Graduate from a nationally accredited nursing program
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant nursing experience
• Current RN licensure in NM or reciprocal jurisdiction
• CPR/BLS certification and ACLS certification required
• Physical ability to perform heavy work and respond to emergency situations
• Experience in diverse patient populations and units preferred; bilingual skills advantageous
• Knowledge of hospital policies, safety protocols, and emergency procedures
• Adherence to safety protocols involving PPE and biohazard handling; completion of tuberculosis testing as required
