About the role
This position performs medical, technical, and administrative support services to contribute to the efficient day-to-day operations providing a positive patient experience.
Responsibilities
- Escort patients to exam rooms
- Take and record vital signs and medical histories
- Prepare patients for examination
- Auxiliary in procedures as directed by physician
- Provide administrative support to providers
- Schedule patient appointments in coordination with provider availability
- Manage in-basket and incoming faxes
- Interact with patients in person and on the phone
- Answer clinic phone
- Collect patient information
- Update and maintain electronic records
- Verify insurance and obtain patient prior authorizations for medications
- Ensure clinic has necessary inventory for operation
- Perform clerical tasks
Requirements
- Current work authorization
- Experience working in an environment performing tasks related to front and back office duties
- Experience using standard exam room medical equipment and computers
- Experience working in a women's health, primary care, or multi-specialty clinic
Qualifications
- Medical Assistant Diploma
- Bilingual-English/Spanish (preferred)
Skills
- Customer service skills appropriate to the job
- Understanding of medical terminology
- Familiarity with universal precautions, handling of bio-hazardous waste, specimen identification and transport
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
- Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with patients of varying ages and multicultural backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal skills
Benefits
Per diem appointees may be scheduled on a pre-scheduled basis or as needed on a day-to-day basis or called off from a pre-established schedule as determined by the University and clinical operation needs.
Pay
The full salary range for the Per Diem Medical Assistant / Patient Care Coordinator is $29.77 per hour.
Schedule
This position may be required to work different shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
