About the role
Tipmont, an electricity and fiber broadband cooperative serving eight counties in north central Indiana, is seeking a Payroll-Focused Human Resources Generalist. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll and human resources, with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and customer service.
Responsibilities
- Process payroll accurately and on schedule (weekly / biweekly / semi-monthly)
- Ensure proper calculation of wages, overtime pay, bonuses and deductions
- Maintain and audit payroll records to ensure accuracy and compliance
- Manage timekeeping systems and resolve discrepancies
- Administer payroll taxes, filings and year-end processes (e.g., W-2s)
- Collaborate with finance / accounting for payroll reporting and reconciliation
- Handle employees’ payroll inquiries with promptness and professionalism
- Maintain compliance with federal, state and local payroll laws and regulations
- Assist with employee onboarding / offboarding processes
- Maintain employee records and HRIS data
- Support benefits administration and handle employees’ benefit inquiries
- Assist with recruiting coordination (e.g., job postings and scheduling interviews)
- Assist with compliance and HR documentation
- Provide general HR support in enforcement of company policies
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 5+ years of payroll experience
- Computer skills in Excel, Word and Outlook
- Working knowledge of HR principles and employment laws
- Strong understanding of payroll taxes, wage laws and compliance requirements
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Able to handle confidential information with discretion
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
Skills
- Fundamental Payroll Certificate (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
- Associate degree preferred
