About the role

Tipmont, an electricity and fiber broadband cooperative serving eight counties in north central Indiana, is seeking a Payroll-Focused Human Resources Generalist. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll and human resources, with a focus on accuracy, compliance, and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Process payroll accurately and on schedule (weekly / biweekly / semi-monthly)
  • Ensure proper calculation of wages, overtime pay, bonuses and deductions
  • Maintain and audit payroll records to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Manage timekeeping systems and resolve discrepancies
  • Administer payroll taxes, filings and year-end processes (e.g., W-2s)
  • Collaborate with finance / accounting for payroll reporting and reconciliation
  • Handle employees’ payroll inquiries with promptness and professionalism
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state and local payroll laws and regulations
  • Assist with employee onboarding / offboarding processes
  • Maintain employee records and HRIS data
  • Support benefits administration and handle employees’ benefit inquiries
  • Assist with recruiting coordination (e.g., job postings and scheduling interviews)
  • Assist with compliance and HR documentation
  • Provide general HR support in enforcement of company policies

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of payroll experience
  • Computer skills in Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of HR principles and employment laws
  • Strong understanding of payroll taxes, wage laws and compliance requirements
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Able to handle confidential information with discretion
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills

Skills

  • Fundamental Payroll Certificate (FPC) or Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
  • Associate degree preferred
