Patient Services Representative - Salem Road

About the role
The Patient Services Representative is responsible for greeting patients and families, collecting and entering demographic and insurance information, collecting payments associated with services rendered, and reconciliation of daily services. Additional duties include scheduling appointments, answering phones, obtaining insurance referrals and authorizations as needed per insurance guidelines, working with medical records, and following HIPAA regulations. Other administrative support and projects may be required.
Responsibilities
- Provide welcoming, prompt, and respectful customer service including scheduling appointments, informing of delays, addressing family complaints, and escalating as necessary.
- Perform EPIC functions such as check-in, check-out, entering demographic and insurance information while ensuring accuracy, and running daily eligibility verifications.
- Reconcile daily services including collection and processing of payments received, reimbursements, creating and/or obtaining insurance referrals and authorizations as needed.
- Answer phones promptly with minimal downtime between calls, accurately verify and document contact information and messages, and provide appropriate information to callers.
- Check voicemails and manage call volume by prioritizing calls using high-priority lists and critical thinking skills.
- Triage and document CHOP home care calls; contact on-call providers directly for calls from those requesting to speak with them, such as E.D.s, home care nurses, physicians, and parents.
- Assist in distributing calls to on-call providers when volume or staffing warrants it; seek resources to ensure safe, high-quality telephone triage and customer service.
- Communicate essential information updates during shifts such as changes in on-call providers and signing out by offices; communicate concerns and ideas for improvement to the Nursing Supervisor/Manager as needed.
- Perform administrative tasks including sorting and delivering mail, faxes, medical records, and other correspondence; photocopying and faxing documents.
- Participate in team huddles and meetings; maintain daily patient records, provider templates, and schedules while following HIPAA guidelines.
- Conduct periodic rounding to inform patients of delays and perform necessary billing work, EPIC pools, and various other reports.
- If located in an area requiring 24/7 coverage, may need to rotate shifts.
- ED/Admissions specific tasks as assigned, including SART paperwork processing, Nurse Call communications, Trauma B-line, and arrivals.

Schedule
- Monday – Thursday: 9:30 AM – 8:00 PM
- 1–2 Saturday shifts per month
- Some travel required
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma / GED – Required
Experience Qualifications
- At least one (1) year of patient services representative experience in a role that included health care, registration, physician billing, medical records, medical office work, and related customer service.

Pay
$21.05 – $26.35 Hourly
Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. Part-time pay will be adjusted accordingly. Factors such as skills and experience could result in an offer above the salary range noted.
