Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC) are community-based healthcare providers that receive funds from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Health Center Program to provide primary care services in under-served areas.

About the Role

The Patient Services Representative (Medical & Dental) is responsible for successfully checking in medical, dental, and behavioral health patients upon arrival and ensuring completion of their registration process. The PSR will schedule patient appointments for medical and/or dental sites, complete required documentation prior to patients leaving the healthcare centers, and coordinate with Center Managers to correct denied claims to minimize error rates. This position ensures patient data is accurate and complete while complying with local, state, federal, industry, and regulatory standards. The PSR must demonstrate an understanding of the HIPAA Privacy Rule and release of medical information, and possess the ability to work independently to process complex patient claims and authorization issues. Excellent customer service skills and effective communication are required.

Responsibilities

  • Check in medical, dental, and behavioral health patients upon arrival and ensure completion of registration.
  • Schedule patient appointments for medical and/or dental sites.
  • Complete required documentation prior to patients leaving the healthcare centers.
  • Coordinate with Center Managers to correct denied claims and minimize error rates.
  • Ensure patient data is accurate and complete.
  • Comply with local, state, federal, industry, and regulatory standards.
  • Adhere to the HIPAA Privacy Rule and handle the release of medical information.
  • Process complex patient claims and authorization issues independently.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience providing customer service in a healthcare organization (preferred).
  • Experience with patient access (scheduling, registration, insurance verification) (preferred).
  • Knowledge of two software databases: Dentrix and Athena.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Punctual and reliable.
  • Able to quickly learn and adapt to new processes and ideas.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional time management skills.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Accurate and efficient in data entry.
  • Able to identify and understand issues and problems.
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision, problem-solve in high-stress environments, and interact positively with all internal and external customers.
  • Able to determine work priorities.
  • Able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Medically cleared from communicable diseases and up-to-date on all immunizations prior to employment.

Schedule

  • Monday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Tuesday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Wednesday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Thursday: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Saturday: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm
  • Other scheduled days as needed.
