Patient Services Representative - Ob/Gyn Specialists
About the Role
The Patient Services Representative serves as the first point of contact for patients, warmly welcoming them upon arrival and ensuring a positive and seamless experience throughout their visit. This role promotes the use of consumer-friendly technologies, educates patients on copayments and financial responsibilities, collects payments, updates demographic and insurance information, and schedules follow-up appointments. The role also connects patients with financial advocacy resources and demonstrates strong customer service skills to ensure patients and their families receive the desired UPMC Experience.
Schedule
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM. No weekends or holidays. Infrequent travel (up to 15%) to other local locations may be required to assist with staffing needs.
Responsibilities
- Provide a warm greeting for all patients.
- Guide patients through the use of self-arrival technology or check them in at the desk based on preference.
- Collect copayments and other applicable patient payments at the point of service.
- Confirm and/or update patient registration information at checkout and schedule follow-up appointments.
- Provide follow-up to unresolved patient questions or needs to ensure continuity of care.
- Understand the principles of service recovery and take appropriate action to address service that does not meet expectations.
- Promote the MyUPMC patient portal and assist patients with registration when applicable.
- Confirm/verify insurance benefits with the appropriate carrier via online verification systems or telephone inquiries.
- Obtain signatures for consent to treatment and financial responsibility following HIPAA rules and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Completion of high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Experience with personal computer-based applications, office equipment, and proficient typing skills is preferred.
- Two years of experience in a medical, billing, fiscal, or customer service function is preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Prior experience with Medipac, Epic, or other health records systems is preferred.
- Ob/Gyn experience is preferred.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting (with renewal)
- Act 33 (with renewal)
- Act 34 (with renewal)
- Act 73 FBI Clearance (with renewal)
