Responsibilities
- Gathers pertinent information from insurance carriers, financial counselors, and other ancillary staff to make certain the patient’s financial obligations for services provided.
- Processes paperwork for new patients efficiently and in accordance with protocols.
- Verifies insurance coverage and obtains authorizations if needed from insurance carrier.
- Resolves pre-certification, registration and case-related concerns prior to a patient’s appointment.
- Tracks and supports patients when they obtain services outside the practice e.g. Emergency departments, Hospital and other health care facilities.
- Maintains PCMH referral processes and enters referrals and documents communications, actions and other data in an information system.
- Safeguards proper signing and filing of all referral requests.
- Aids in specialty appointments and obtains needed tests recommended by specialists.
- Communicates with other team members and referral teams constructively in order to reduce conflicts and enhance the resolution of issues.
- Functions as the system navigator and point of contact for patients and families, ensuring direct access for questions and concerns on orders and referrals.
- Provides care management services for high-risk patients.
- Obtains insurance referrals for patients, getting PA for diagnostic imaging and sending referrals to specialist offices for cardiac and preventative screenings.
Qualifications
- Education: High School Diploma
- Experience: Five years experience working with referral processes.
- Familiarity with EPC EHR system
