About the role

As a Patient Service Specialist, you will deliver an exceptional experience to patients, families, and visitors from arrival to departure. You will assist with scheduling, pre-registration, MyChart enrollment, and visit preparations. This role serves as a steppingstone for careers in Customer Service and other Cleveland Clinic departments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a comprehensive, proactive, and “Patients First” experience for patients and visitors.
  • Investigate, triage, and resolve patient issues using the established HEART model.
  • Create a welcoming and professional environment, ensuring stellar patient experiences.
  • Perform patient registration, visit preparation, telephone triage, insurance verification, co-pay collection, and patient/record tracking.
  • Handle scheduling, arrival/departure desk activities, and interpreter services.
  • Enter and maintain confidential patient information.
  • Recruit, enroll, and educate patients on MyChart and Appointment Pass.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 2 years of experience in patient registration, appointment scheduling, insurance processing, or customer service OR Associate’s Degree and 1 year of experience OR Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Working knowledge of PC window applications.
  • Ability to perform basic math sufficient to process insurance co-pays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Demonstrable personal computer keyboard skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods.
  • Ability to work with physical records or operate a computer or other office equipment.
  • In some locations, ability to travel throughout the hospital system.
  • In some locations, ability to move up to 25 lbs.

Personal Protective Equipment

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Schedule

This role works 3rd shift from 10:30pm to 7:00am, including every other weekend and holiday on rotation. Training for the first 45 days will be on 1st or 2nd shift before transitioning to the 3rd shift schedule.

Pay

The pay range for new hires is $15.75 to $21.65 per hour. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined based on work history, experience, skill set, and education. This range does not include applicable pay practices (e.g., shift differentials, overtime) or the value of Cleveland Clinic’s benefits package (e.g., healthcare, dental, vision, retirement contributions).
