They manage and supervise the utilization of patient safety and infection prevention databases and carry out delegated data management functions as needed on behalf of the Patient Safety Team and Infection Prevention Team. Education, License & Cert: - Bachelor’s degree required. Must have college-level reading comprehension, writing and data analytics skills. - RN preferred. - Experience with Medical Terminology required. - Certification or degree in informatics preferred. Special Skills: - Excellent computer skills and experience. - Understanding of data management. - Quick learning of new technology. - Strong written and oral communication skills. - Can work independently. - Confident in facilitating conversations across a wide range of caregivers. - Driven by curiosity to drill into and analyze medical data. - Excellent organizational skills: ability to prioritize, use good time management and adhere to deadlines as directed. Experience: - Experience working in healthcare setting is required. - Experience using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint is required. - Experience with a diverse range of computer software products is required. - Experience with the EPIC electronic medical record is preferred. - Experience with data analysis, statistics, and report-writing. - Experience in training others. Essential Functions: 1. Works 50% with the Patient Safety Team and 50% with the Infection Prevention Team. 2. With the System Patient Safety Team:3. Manages the administration of the Patient Safety Incident Reporting System which includes ensuring that access to the system is updated and caregiver roles are assigned appropriately, building reports/dashboards that meet the organization’s needs, updating forms for data collection as requested. 4. Provides instructional support to users on the Patient Safety Incident Reporting System functionality. 5. Manages the administration of the Root/Apparent Cause Tracking Software: ensures that access to the system is updated and roles are assigned appropriately, builds reports/dashboards, and updates forms as needed for data collection. 6. Assists with follow-up on actions assigned in the Root/Apparent Cause System to ensure loop closure. 7. Manages the administration of the Pennsylvania Patient Safety Reporting System (PA-PSRS) system which includes ensuring that access to the system is updated and roles are assigned appropriately, ensuring that information is complete for successful file transmission. 8. Ensures Regulatory compliance with timely data submission. - With the System Infection Prevention Team:1. Works with the Infection Prevention team to abstract requested data points from the electronic medical record (EMR) for various hospital-acquired infections (HAIs) in a timely manner and inputs those datapoints into requested Excel Spreadsheets. 2. Assists with analyzing abstracted data points to demonstrate infection-related trends. 3. Oversees the uploading and/or manually enters requested data into the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) from the EMR or other data sources as needed, monitors accuracy of data submission, extracts facility-specific reports as requested, and provides instructional support to users on the NHSN functionality. 4. Supports the Infection Prevention team by managing infection prevention monthly dashboards, compiling data from all appropriate infection sources, creating and updating infection-related graphs as requested, and assisting with creation of committee presentations. 5. Assists the Infection Team with reporting Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) into the Patient Safety Incident Reporting System. 6. Ensures Regulatory compliance with timely data submission.
