About the Role
We are looking for a Patient Representative to join our collaborative team at Memorial Health, performing registration across multiple Medical Office Buildings (MOB):
- Memorial Hospital
- City Gate MOB: Urgent Care
- Jerome MOB: Central Registration (1st and 2nd floors), Urgent Care
- Urbana MOB: Central Registration (1st floor), Urgent Care
Responsibilities
- Conduct interviews with patients in person or by telephone to gather registration information, including demographic, financial, guarantor details, travel screenings, and MyChart activation, while simultaneously inputting data into the Hospital Information System (HIS).
- Contribute to the hospital’s financial effectiveness by reviewing and scanning Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party insurance cards, along with patient or representative photo identification.
- Identify and document patient veteran status; inquire about intent to bill the Department of Veteran Affairs. Notify pre-cert specialists for non-scheduled services and ensure proper VA authorization for scheduled procedures.
- Identify accident-related encounters and correct claim details, guarantor, and coverage information.
- Secure patient or representative signatures on required forms, including consent to treat, financial policy, patient rights and responsibilities, HIPAA notice of privacy practices, Provider Based Billing Acknowledgement, Notice of Non-Coverage, and notice of non-discrimination.
- Provide appropriate forms to patients, such as Animal Bite Forms and First Report of Injury (FROI).
- Complete verification of patient insurance eligibility and benefits using hospital-based systems or web-based technologies.
- Verify prior authorization/precertification for outpatient testing and procedures, documenting as needed in the EMR.
- Complete medical necessity verification for Medicare outpatient services with Local Medical Review Policies (LMRP) or Local Coverage Determinations (LCD); request additional information from physicians if needed and present Advanced Beneficiary Notice (ABN) for non-compliant diagnoses.
- Correctly identify patients using three primary identifiers to avoid duplicate medical records (DMR) and report duplicates when discovered.
- Notify clinical departments of patient arrivals and delays.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Personal computer/data entry experience preferred.
- Six months of experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred.
- Strong telephone and interpersonal communication skills; team-building skills.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medical insurance preferred.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Attain American Heart Association’s BLS certification within the first sixty (60) days of employment and maintain continuous certification.
- Complete Behavioral Health De-escalation Training Class within six months of hire.
