About the role
The Registrar at OSS Health is responsible for processing all patients according to established standards, ensuring accurate demographic and insurance information is entered into the medical records. This position requires a minimum of one year of experience in the medical field and strong communication and customer service skills.
Responsibilities
- Follows all policies and procedures, particularly Admissions and Financial policies.
- Gathers and enters demographic, insurance information, and required forms into the medical record for all patient visits.
- Registers patients for their scheduled visit, verifying demographic information and updating the computer system as needed.
- Collects patient co-pays, co-insurance, and estimated out-of-pocket expenses at the time of service.
- Reconciles daily payments and formats surgical, pain, and laboratory visits in the Medical Record.
- Verifies insurance benefits and eligibility, updating patients on surgeon delays.
- Safeguards OSS information and adheres to the patient's Bill of Rights and Confidentiality Information.
- Maintains a positive and professional attitude towards all patients, co-workers, and medical staff.
- Shows flexibility in scheduling and work location.
- Demonstrates good judgment in safeguarding OSS information.
- Answers telephones promptly and directs calls appropriately.
- Assists in Patient Ambassador Desk coverage, managing visitor logs, and signing in/out vendor and contractor badges.
- Maintains a positive and professional attitude towards patients, co-workers, and physicians.
- Keeps work area orderly and neat.
- Travels to other offices as needed to provide coverage.
- Participates in staff meetings and accepts additional responsibilities to improve patient care and practice well-being.
- Orders flowers for hospital patient rooms weekly.
- Participates in career advancement opportunities.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one year of experience in the medical field preferred.
- Strong communication and customer service skills required.
- Knowledge of inpatient admitting and outpatient registration process preferred.
- Strong computer skills, including accurate data entry skills required.
- Able to work independently and be self-directed.
- Able to work collaboratively with all staff.
- Able to adapt to changes in the medical business.
- Able to maintain confidentiality of all medical and patient information.
- Medical Terminology knowledge preferred.
