Patient Case Specialist, Part Time - Evenings

About the role

Join UChicago Medicine, a world-class academic healthcare system, as a Patient Case Specialist in our Patient Access Services Department. This is a 100% onsite opportunity based in the greater Chicagoland area. You will perform pre-admission, admission, verification, pre-certification, financial, reception desk, expiration desk, and ADT functions in a patient-centric, efficient healthcare delivery system focused on quality, safety, service, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Perform a thorough analysis of patient's financial data.
• Determine and meet requirements of third-party payors to secure reimbursement for inpatient services.
• Document all account activity to ensure proper billing.
• Capture complete and accurate patient demographic and insurance information for inpatient admissions.
• Determine patient's liability and discuss it with the patient to secure payment.
• Cross-train across all Admission Services functions.
• Perform other duties as requested by senior management.

Requirements

• A completed Bachelor’s degree and/or 3 or more years of relevant experience.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to interact effectively with a variety of internal and external customers with tact, discretion, and courtesy.
• Strong mathematical skills to calculate patient liability.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in a healthcare setting.

Schedule

• Part-Time / 0.5 FTE.
• Evenings, rotating weekends—weekend shifts are 8 hours (weekdays may vary).

Pay

The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected for the position, based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and current market data. Compensation at hire will vary based on candidate qualifications, experience, and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
