Patient Care Technician, Orthopedic Spine Medical Surgical Telemetry , Nights

Responsibilities

• Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding: Answering patient call lights, answering phones, assisting visitors within the facility.
• Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Learning patient safe handling skills to assist in ambulation and transferring, lifting, or repositioning patients using Safe Patient Handling equipment.
• Basic Nursing Care / ADLs: Providing basic care including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, using bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc., under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
• Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Performing procedures such as urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care, and dressing changes under the direction of the nurse.
• Procedures and Treatments: Completing and documenting patient care activities including ADLs, vital signs, weights, intake & output, and calorie counts, and performing point of care patient blood sugar testing under the direction of the nurse.
• Care Companion / Sitter / Observer: Remaining with a patient as a means to keep the patient safe.
• Department Specific Tasks: Supporting the nursing team by performing indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment, answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results, etc.

Requirements

• Minimum Education Requirements: Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred; completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred.
• Minimum Licensure Requirements: Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by either American Heart Association.
• Experience Details: No Experience Required.
• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, ability to prioritize, ability to receive and follow through on directions; demonstrates concern for and commitment to the welfare of our patient and families.
• Physical Demands: When in the clinical environment, must utilize appropriate patient movement equipment for patient-lifting and transfers when the transfer is a non-emergency situation. In an urgent event, may need to assist with lifting up to 50 pounds. When applicable, wear an N95 mask/PAPR and other PPE.
