Responsibilities

  • Patient & Visitor Interactions / Customer Service / Hourly Rounding: Answering patient call lights, answering phones, assisting visitors, performing purposeful hourly rounding.
  • Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Learning patient safe handling skills, assisting in the ambulation of patients, transferring, lifting, and repositioning patients using Safe Patient Handling equipment.
  • Basic Nursing Care / ADLs: Providing basic care including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, using bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, under the supervision of a RN/LPN.
  • Patient Safe Handling / Ambulation / Repositioning: Performing procedures under the direction of the nurse, explaining and performing procedures, notifying appropriate personnel of responses and questions, collecting non-sterile specimens, performing point of care patient blood sugar testing, promoting and maintaining skin integrity.
  • Care Companion / Sitter / Observer: Remaining with a patient as a means to keep the patient safe.
  • Department Specific Tasks: Supporting the nursing team by indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment, answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results, and so forth.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Requirements: Completion of an accredited certified nursing assistant (CNA) training course preferred; completion of at least one nursing clinical rotation in medical or surgical nursing preferred.
  • Minimum Licensure Requirements: Current BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider issued by either American Heart Association if not current or not yet obtained, required to be obtained within the employee’s introductory period (within 90 days of hire date).
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): Excellent interpersonal skills including teamwork, ability to prioritize, ability to receive and follow through on directions; demonstrates concern for and commitment to the welfare of our patient and families; required to attend an in-depth orientation regarding patient care skill tasks; trained and expected to observe all fire and safety procedures and patient experience standards.
  • Physical Demands: When in the clinical environment, must utilize appropriate patient movement equipment for patient-lifting and transfers when the transfer is a non-emergency situation. In an urgent event, may need to assist with lifting up to 50 pounds. When applicable, wear an N95 mask/PAPR and other PPE. Sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting throughout the shift.
  • Technical Skills: Basic computer skills required.
