Patient Care Technician (GP4 Advanced Acute Care) - No CNA Cert Required - Day Shift

About the Role
Geisinger is piloting a new model of care on our Advanced Acute Care Units at our Danville campus: the ACE Nursing Model of Care. This model utilizes Patient Care Technicians to perform duties that do not require a nursing license, allowing licensed nurses to focus on advanced skills aligned with their training. This role offers more opportunities for career advancement, autonomy, and greater involvement in patient care.
Responsibilities
- Primary facilitator of activities of daily living (ADLs): hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals
- Vital signs and point-of-care testing
- Turning and repositioning patients
- Daily weights and equipment checks/exchanges
- Dressing care
- Removal of Foley catheters and peripheral IVs
- Nasogastric tube removal and nasal swabs
- Checking code carts and oxygen storage cabinets
- Perform advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, including advanced dressing care, suctioning, and venipunctures for blood specimens
- Handle daily aspects of breast milk, infant, and pediatric formula storage, preparation, and delivery
- Document in the medical record and report changes in patient condition to licensed personnel
- Assist with activities of daily living and patient hygiene
- Provide one-to-one patient safety watch as assigned
- Process and transport specimens accurately and timely
- Perform point-of-care testing and instrument maintenance
- Assist in problem-solving and equipment maintenance
- Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students
- Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths
- Transcribe and process orders, release and confirm tests, and coordinate patient transportation
- Schedule tests, order supplies, and communicate with food services for patient diets
- Operate and maintain clerical equipment
- Transport non-controlled medications and blood products
- Conduct discharge follow-up calls and coordinate virtual discharge appointments
- Support staff with 5-minute drills and quality rounds
Requirements
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) – Required
- Graduate from a Specialty Training Program – Preferred
- Minimum of 1 year of related work experience – Preferred
- Basic Life Support Certification within 6 months of employment

Pay
$18.94 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals. Up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
Schedule
- Three 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), including every other weekend and holiday
- Required two-week classroom orientation at the start of employment: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
