Patient Care Technician (GBH Emergency Department) - No CNA Cert Required - Day Shift
Job Summary
Geisinger offers a Patient Care Technician a $1500 sign on bonus for eligible candidates, along with a $18.94 minimum hiring rate and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Additionally, there is up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.
Job Duties
- Performs a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
- Maintains the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies, procedures, and practices.
- Provides enhanced patient care, including advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley Catheter and peripheral IVs.
- Performs venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to CLSI guidelines.
- Documents in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
- Identifies, observes, and documents the physical needs of the patient according to established standards.
- Reports any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
- Processes specimens and provides timely transport to the laboratory.
- Performs point of care patient testing and instrument maintenance and quality control.
- Aids in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and taking corrective measures for equipment and supplies.
- Serves as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students.
- Transcribes and processes orders, coordinates transportation of patients to multiple tests, and assists with ordering supplies.
- Communicates with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
- Operates, problem-solves, and takes corrective measures for clerical equipment, including scheduling maintenance of computers, fax machines, phones, etc.
- Assists with transporting non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
- Assists with transporting blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed.
- Supports discharge follow-up phone calls and coordinates virtual discharge appointments.
- Participates in 5-minute drills and/or quality rounds as needed.

Qualifications

Pay
- $18.94 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals.
- Up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts.
- Up to $40,000 in financial support to become a nurse.
Schedule
- Three 12-hour Day shifts (7:00am-7:30pm).
- Every other weekend and holiday.
