Geisinger is proud to offer a $1500 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates, a minimum hiring rate of $18.94 with increased rates for experienced individuals, and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, nights, and weekend shifts. Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, maintaining the patient care and unit environment consistent with policies and procedures.
  • Provide care for patients in the specific age range on the assigned clinical area, including enhanced patient care under the direction of the licensed nurse (e.g., advanced dressing care, suctioning, removal of Foley Catheter and peripheral IV).
  • Perform venipunctures and skin punctures to obtain blood specimens according to Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines.
  • Handle daily aspects of the storage, preparation, and delivery of breast milk, infant, and pediatric formulas.
  • Document in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record.
  • Identify, observe, and document the physical needs of the patient according to established standards; report changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner.
  • Obtain and maintain the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure, per physician order.
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and fulfill designated responsibilities for the ongoing continuum of care, including patient hygiene and changing linens.
  • Provide one-to-one patient safety watch as assigned, following established policies and procedures.
  • Accurately process specimens and provide timely transport of specimens to the laboratory.
  • Perform point-of-care patient testing and instrument maintenance and quality control.
  • Assist in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and taking corrective measures in the care and maintenance of equipment and supplies.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students in a positive manner.
  • Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards; facilitate patient throughput activities, transcribe, and process orders.
  • Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments.
  • Coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests.
  • Participate in obtaining and communicating electronic information pertinent to the nursing unit; schedule tests, fax consults, etc.
  • Assist in ordering supplies, including stationery items, floor stock, patient needs, and individual nursing supplies.
  • Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets.
  • Operate, problem-solve, and take corrective measures for clerical equipment, including scheduling maintenance for computers, fax machines, and phones.
  • Transport non-controlled medications to and from Pharmacy and within the unit as needed.
  • Transport blood products to and from Blood Bank as needed.
  • Conduct discharge follow-up phone calls and coordinate virtual discharge appointments.
  • Support staff with 5-minute drills and/or Quality Rounds; participate in regulatory readiness as needed.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) (Required).
  • No prior experience required; comprehensive on-the-job training provided.
  • Must meet qualifications to provide care for patients in the specific age range of the assigned clinical area.

Schedule

  • Three 12-hour day shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM), including every other weekend and holiday.
  • Required two-week classroom orientation at the start of employment: Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
