Geisinger is proud to offer a $1500 sign-on bonus for eligible candidates, an $18.94 minimum hiring rate with increased rates for experienced individuals, and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Geisinger is piloting the ACE Nursing Model of Care on our Advanced Acute Care Units at our Danville, Bloomsburg, and Shamokin campuses. This model utilizes more Patient Care Technicians to perform duties that do not require a nursing license, offering greater career advancement, autonomy, and involvement in patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Primary facilitator of activities of daily living (ADLs): hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals
  • Collect vital signs and daily weights
  • Conduct Point of Care testing
  • Turn and reposition patients
  • Perform equipment checks and exchanges
  • Provide dressing care
  • Remove Foley Catheters and Peripheral IVs
  • Remove nasogastric tubes and perform nasal swabs
  • Check code carts and oxygen storage cabinets
  • Perform a wide variety of advanced patient care duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse
  • Document in the appropriate sections to create a complete and accurate medical record
  • Identify, observe, and document the physical needs of the patient according to established standards
  • Report any changes in patient condition to licensed personnel in a timely manner
  • Obtain and maintain the integrity of specimens in accordance with policy and procedure
  • Assist patients with activities of daily living and fulfill designated responsibilities for ongoing continuum of care, including patient hygiene and changing linens
  • Provide one-to-one patient safety watch as assigned following established policies and procedures
  • Accurately process specimens and provide timely transport to the laboratory
  • Perform point of care patient testing and instrument maintenance/quality control
  • Assist in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and taking corrective measures in care and maintenance of equipment and supplies
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor for new staff and students
  • Perform clerical duties for admissions, transfers, discharges, and deaths according to standards
  • Transcribe and process orders according to unit standards
  • Release and confirm ordered tests to appropriate departments
  • Coordinate transportation of patients to multiple tests
  • Participate in obtaining and communicating electronic information pertinent to the nursing unit
  • Schedule tests, fax consults, and perform other administrative tasks
  • Assist in ordering supplies, including stationery, floor stock, and individual nursing supplies
  • Communicate with food services to ensure appropriate patient diets
  • Operate, troubleshoot, and schedule maintenance for clerical equipment such as computers, fax machines, and phones
  • Transport non-controlled medications and blood products as needed
  • Conduct discharge follow-up phone calls and coordinate virtual discharge appointments
  • Support staff with 5-minute drills and/or Quality Rounds, and participate in regulatory readiness as needed

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED) (Required)
  • No prior experience needed; comprehensive on-the-job training provided

Schedule

  • Three 12-hour shifts weekly, including day/evening hours (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM / 11:00 AM - 11:30 PM)
  • Every other weekend and holiday requirements
  • Two-week classroom orientation at the start of employment: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
