Patient Care Tech - ICU, Full-Time, Night Shift

About the role

Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center is seeking a full‑time Patient Care Technician (PCT) to work the night shift (7 pm – 7 am) in the ICU. The PCT provides direct patient care, supports activities of daily living, performs vital sign monitoring, mobility assistance, phlebotomy, point‑of‑care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and Foley catheter insertion and removal while adhering to patient safety practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and support independent and dependent activities of daily living.
• Measure and record vital signs.
• Assist with patient mobility and ambulation.
• Perform phlebotomy and point‑of‑care testing.
• Conduct EKG testing.
• Remove peripheral IV lines.
• Collect specimens.
• Insert and remove Foley catheters.
• Observe and document patients’ physical, mental, and emotional conditions in a timely and accurate manner.
• Report any changes in patient status to the RN or medical staff.
• Comply with patient safety practices under the direction of the professional RN.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (required).
• One of the following certifications or experience (required):
  • Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
  • National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
  • Completion of U.S. Navy Hospital Corps School
  • Emergency services credentials (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic)
  • Current enrollment in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) with at least one semester completed in RN, LPN, RT, or PT
  • Work experience within the last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Pay

The base pay range for full‑time employment is $18.93 – $27.41 hourly. Additional compensation may include shift differentials, standby/on‑call pay, overtime, shift premiums, extra‑shift incentives, or bonus opportunities, varying based on qualifications, experience, location, market conditions, and business needs.

Schedule

Third (Nights) shift: 7 pm – 7 am, full‑time.
