Patient Care Tech, Night Shift, Full Time

Overview

Sentara CarePlex Hospital is hiring a Registered Nurse (RN) and a Patient Care Tech for the Medical Oncology Unit and Med Surg/Tele/Stroke Units, respectively. Both positions operate on a Night shift (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM) and Day shift (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM) with rotating weekly schedules of 36 hours.

Education

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Sentara Care Partner Certification Program
• Successful completion of the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
• National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA)
• National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT)
• Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School
• Emergency Services to include EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT and Paramedic
• Current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT
• Current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant

Experience

One year of health care experience preferred.

Job Description

The Patient Care Technician provides patient care, supports independent and dependent activities of daily living, takes vital signs, assists with mobility and ambulation, performs phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal, all under the direction of the professional RN nurse. They observe patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions and document in a timely and accurate manner, reporting any changes to the nurse or medical staff.

Certifications/Licensure

AHA BLS certification within 90 days of hire.
