Position Summary

The Restorative Dentistry department for the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine is seeking a Patient Care Specialist to support clinical dental research studies. In this role, you will provide specialized clinical and laboratory expertise to support the implementation of diverse clinical research studies involving both observational and interventional protocols. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Perform study-specific clinical procedures including oral health assessments, prophylaxis, sample collection (saliva, plaque, and gingival crevicular fluid), anthropomorphic, and other clinical procedures.
  • Conduct phlebotomy for research participants, process blood samples in accordance with study guidelines, and ensure appropriate labeling, documentation, storage, and shipment of biospecimens.
  • Aid with subject recruitment, informed consent, retention strategies, and follow-up visits.
  • Support examiner calibration sessions for faculty and student investigators participating in clinical research.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3 years of progressive experience with a demonstrated working knowledge of research procedures
  • Graduation from an accredited dental hygienist program
  • License to practice as a Dental Hygienist in the State of New York
  • Certification as a Dental Hygienist by the National Board of Dental Hygiene

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working in clinical research studies
  • Experience working with word, excel, outlook and electronic dental records system
  • Certification in phlebotomy

Salary Range

$60,000 - $75,000
